Its core mission involves applying cutting-edge technological innovations to develop practical solutions that positively impact businesses, industries and communities. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, maintaining state-of-the-art research facilities, and cultivating partnerships with industry, government, and non-government entities, the centre aims to be a catalyst for positive change. Emphasizing ethical standards, compliance, and a commitment to societal well-being, it actively seeks grants to support its research initiatives, with a focus on tangible, real-world outcomes that contribute to the betterment of society.
Opportunities for Research
We will continue to consolidate our sector-leading expertise in applied research in artificial intelligence and machine learning; blockchain and cybersecurity; smart IOT and systems.
- Machine Learning and Applications: Concentrating on fundamental research in the areas of adversarial machine learning, AI robustness, anti-spoofing, domain adaptation, and federated learning; applying technique and applications to biometric authentication, biomedical sciences, computational social sciences, and cybersecurity.
- Natural Language Processing: low resolution translation of machine inputs; multilingual representation learning, transfer learning, and dialogues; decision-making; question and answering; ontologies and summarizations; information retrieval; and text decipherment.
- Knowledge Graphs: Utilization of artificial intelligence and applicable machine learning techniques to develop and exploit knowledge bases and taxonomies from data held within the confines of businesses in general.
- Scientific Data Analysis and Discovery: Developing intelligent user interfaces and semantic workflows; large-scale data integration and analysis of sensor, environmental, neuroimaging, genetic, and climatic data.
- Computational Social Science: Identifying structures and patterns in complex systems that may hide information; social media analysis, quanto-socio demography, technological inequity, and other forms of large-scale data detection; applied AI in areas such as e-commerce.
- AI Fairness: Mitigating and detecting bias; identifying cultural value; crowdsourcing and misinformation; adversarial attacks.
- Green Infrastructure: CPD and training in collaboration with Jamaica’s Building and Architectural Network will assist in achieving Green Infrastructure strategic goals for providing infrastructure (built and natural), which is multifunctional yet resilient against climate change, biodiversity, SMART, and sustainable goals.
- Wood Knowledge: The provision of training and collaboration with timber and forestry services and partners across Jamaica for facilitating countrywide training and start-up research for ensuring that emerging knowledge and technical solutions are available nationwide.
- Upskilling for Industry 4.0: Utilizing existing computational capacity and regeneration activities for bolstering core business needs nationally.
