Aligning with the three pillars of VIRI's proposed research—Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML); Blockchain and Cybersecurity (B/C); and SMART IoT—the institute seeks to exchange ideas and research with international partners. This approach not only enhances the institute's standing but also aligns with its demonstrated need for funding research and collaborative functions.
Having a computing-based centre will allow us as researchers to offer consultations in direct alliance with external research environments and in ensuring that the type of research and projects that are created are aligned with Vector’s and Jamaica’s strategic framework for commercialization, entrepreneurship, innovation, and research accordingly.
Our collective expertise will add value to the greater Caribbean and South American communities and in the construction of knowledge exchange in an aptly varied world that now needs full cognizance of STEM-applicable areas.
The centre’s success will result from leveraging the combined areas of : Applied Computing, Inter & Multi-disciplinary Research Areas, Strategic Collaboration, and Culture Of Continuous Learning
A. Applied Computing
The fundamental vision of this centre will be to become a leader in the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning; Blockchain and Cybersecurity; and SMART IOT and Innovative Systems. Thus, creating futuristic technological schemas that will add value to our research capacity and in the creation of a suite of grant and funding opportunities.
The centre will prioritise interdisciplinary research in key focus areas, including but not limited to healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, and social equality. By integrating technology into these domains, we aim to develop tangible solutions that address the complex challenges faced by our society. To achieve this goal, the centre will need to concentrate on the following research challenges:
B. Interdisciplinary Research Areas
Having examined the Jamaican computing context, four areas for the development of societal impact has been discovered:
C. Multidisciplinary Research
After a thorough dissection of the greater caribbean and south american peninsulas multidisciplinary research will be undertaken that addresses the core issues of:
D. Strategic Collaboration
In today's rapidly evolving landscape, the convergence of technology with diverse disciplines is paramount. Our proposed research centre seeks to harness the collective intelligence and expertise of Vector Technology Institute and a select group of distinguished researchers. This collaborative synergy will create an environment where the boundaries between disciplines blur, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and methodologies. By integrating the strengths of technology with insights from various fields, we aim to develop holistic solutions that transcend traditional silos.
Vector Technology Institute’s strong affiliation with international industry certification bodies in information technology and engineering is a testament to our commitment to excellence. This unique position provides a global perspective, ensuring that our research projects are not only cutting-edge but also globally relevant. Collaborating with international partners will enrich our research endeavours, bringing diverse perspectives to the table and enhancing the impact of our solutions on a global scale.
E. Culture Of Continuous Learning
VIRI will be a nurturing ground for talent, providing a platform for both seasoned researchers and emerging scholars to thrive. The collaborative nature of this venture will expose individuals to a spectrum of knowledge, expanding their horizons and fostering interdisciplinary thinking. This not only benefits the individuals directly involved but also cultivates a culture of continuous learning that permeates throughout the academic and research communities.
This page will list a series of grants and or funding applications VIRI has made over a certain period of time. It will act as a live grant tracker that only members of VIRI can access.
